At Church on the Hill, we’re passionate about raising up the next generation of pastors who faithfully follow Jesus.
We believe that when churches are led by humble, gospel-driven, biblically grounded, and well-equipped servant-leaders, the message of Jesus moves further and impacts more lives. We also know that our church becomes stronger when we invest intentionally in leadership development. That’s why the Church on the Hill Pastoral Residency exists—to train, equip, and send out faithful pastors to serve both our local community and the global Church.

Frequently Asked Questions
Residencies are a 12-month commitment (January – December).
Past residents have applied before, during, and after their theological education, but all candidates are post-college.
Residents are placed in a cohort environment and learning 5 Key Competencies of Pastoral Ministry while also assisting in the shepherding of the congregation. The pastoral residents will also teach the Word weekly during the Sunday Evening Prayer Meeting.
It will be conducted in six-week modules. We will meet on Sunday nights at 6:30 – 7:30 PM on scheduled evenings after the prayer meeting.
- The Pastor as an Example (Jan-Feb)
- The Pastor as a Shepherd (March – April)
- The Pastor as a Preacher (May – June)
- The Pastor as a Leader (Aug – Sept)
- The Pastor as a Theologian (Oct – Nov)
You will read at least five books, one per module. There will be additional reading to go alongside these books as well as lecture videos.
3-5 Hours per week.
The Pastoral Residency is a serious commitment. It is not recommended for candidates to apply who will not commit to 95% of the cohort meetings & intend to complete the entire residency. This is to ensure that each resident is able to fully gain all the materials.
No. Completing the pastoral residency does not guarantee pastoral positions at Church on the Hill or across The Well Network. However, biblically qualified candidates who aspire to the office of pastor can be recommended to the church to be elected as lay-pastors. The congregation has the final decision on who becomes one of their pastors at any of the Well Network churches.
